A hamstring issue will keep the Clippers forward out for at least two weeks

The Clippers announced, through ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, that forward Derrick Jones will be out for at least a few weeks due to a strained right hamstring.Given the nature of soft-tissue injuries, it wouldn’t be shocking if Jones missed more time than the two weeks until his next evaluation.

Jones was out for the rest of Sunday’s game against Houston due to hamstring pain, according to Tomer Azarly of Clutch Points. He contributed 12 minutes to the defeat. Following his crucial contribution to Dallas’ run to the NBA Finals last spring, Jones inked a three-year, $30 million contract with the Clippers during the offseason. With 25 games played, all starts, with an average of 10.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.3 sPG on.500/.417/.871 shooting, he had a strong start to his debut season in Los Angeles (25.0 MPG).

Jordan Miller and Nicolas Batum, both forwards, got an increase in playing time against Houston while Jones was out. For at least the next two weeks, that is expected to remain the case. Amir Coffey (shoulder contusion), Mohamed Bamba (left knee), and James Harden (groin) all practiced Tuesday, according to Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times. Law Murray of The Athletic reports that head coach Tyronn Lue also gave an injury update on star player Kawhi Leonard. Leonard participated in non-contact drills throughout Tuesday’s practice, according to Lue, and he will not play in Friday’s game in Denver. He worked on both offensive and defensive scripts, but he made no contact. Regarding Leonard, Lue stated, through McMenamin, “but he did pretty much everything else.” He had a nice appearance. He is improving, but he won’t be playing this week. .. Simply keep increasing until he can make contact. When that will happen is unknown to us.
