Drury’s career could be ended if the proposed Rangers-Wild trade is botched

A possible blockbuster trade between the Minnesota Wild and the New York Rangers was recently examined by Arthur Staple of The Athletic.

This transaction might have major long-term ramifications for Rangers general manager Chris Drury. In exchange for veteran blueliner Jonas Brodin, the Wild would acquire young defenceman K’Andre Miller. Staple acknowledges certain problems with this transaction. Firstly, considering Brodin is on injured reserve, it may be a long shot and not soon. Second, “it seems like Drury’s career would be ended if he traded K’Andre Miller for a player who was seven years older.”

Brodin, 31, is a top-pairing defender who has been a pillar of Minnesota’s defence over the previous 13 seasons, according to Staple.

He plays more than 22 minutes per night. Miller is a pending restricted free agent who is anticipated to want a large increase from his present $3.872 million salary; the Rangers must make a crucial decision regarding him in the meanwhile.

Miller has had a difficult season, so Drury may be rethinking the notion of giving him an expensive, long-term contract.

The Wild, who are 19-5-4 and in the lead in the Central Division, are still very much in the running for the playoffs. They might be willing to bring in a guy who can help, and K’Andre Miller might only need a new beginning to get back to his best despite his difficulties. It may be beneficial for both parties if he were moved to the Wild during a contract year.
